Coal Ash Landfill

As it is with many revolutionary technologies past and present, it is the innate desire to solve an existing or emerging national crisis that gives birth to these ground-breaking innovations. Such is the case with GCS’ coal ash-to-mineral fiber conversion technology and our affiliate company’s (Eco Green Solutions) coal powered plant emissions capture technology. The global challenge to uncover a more comprehensive, safer and cost-effective solution for the management of coal ash has now been fulfilled through GCS. Be it fly ash, bottom ash, boiler slag, wet or dry coal ash, GCS’ operations can convert millions of tons of toxic coal ash from any kind of coal each year into 6 base mineral fibers that can be used to manufacture end-products such as paper, brake pads, textiles, building insulation, rubber and plastics, and carbon fiber precursors. All the while, providing as many as 500 direct jobs at each factory and cleaning up the harmful effects of coal ash across the country.

The invention of these technologies spanned a period of twelve years and an additional four years thus far for their commercialization in the United States after a brief implementation of manufacturing operations in Asia. During this period, GCS has experienced numerous encounters that have opened our eyes to the great benefit of these technologies to our global society and the privileged stewardship and custodial responsibilities for our team.

Whereas GCS’ coal ash technology addresses the undeniable challenges with our nation’s safe and comprehensive management of coal ash landfills and ash ponds, our affiliate company’s emissions capture technology fully addresses the national and global challenge of controlling greenhouse gas emissions from coal powered plants by capturing the likes of carbon dioxide, nitric oxide, sulfur dioxide, and mercury at efficiency rates of 96%. This coal power plant emissions capture technology is embedded into GCS coal ash-to-mineral fiber manufacturing operations to ensure the company’s smallest possible adverse impact on the environment.

While the benefits of GCS’ coal ash-to-mineral fiber technology and operations might be obvious so some, a few noteworthy ones include:

  • GCS operations remove toxic coal ash from the environment and provides sought-after raw materials for industries;

  • GCS enables utility companies and communities to reclaim land parcels formerly used for coal ash landfills/ponds;

  • Utility companies will realize savings from their coal ash management budget, which can be passed onto consumers;

  • Creation of high number of direct jobs that can number as many as 500 jobs by each GCS manufacturing facility;

  • Creation of substantial indirect jobs in ancillary and down-stream industries that are associated with GCS’;

  • A reduction in the instances of deforestation for wood pulp and a resulting preservation of the ecology; and

  • Availability of safe, high-quality and reasonably priced mineral fibers for the manufacturing of various products.

Underpinning these advancements, is GCS’ commitment to our global environment and the economic prosperity of communities through the creation of jobs. And during a period such as we find ourselves today with the global pandemic, sprawling coal ash wastelands/ponds and fleeting employment, GCS could not have been better positioned to fully answer the call of our nation…the call for a cleaner and safer environment and the call for the creation of meaningful jobs for our communities and fellow citizens. In fact, we firmly believe at GCS that with our full line of mineral fiber products covering a broad range of industries, our nation is on the verge of a reboot of its industrial revolution.
